I've been playing guitar for over 50 years. I got my first guitar on my 13th birthday - 1978 Fender Stratocaster. I started playing in a band around that time as well and never looked back. It wasn't long before I wanted to modify my guitar. I was a broke teenager, so I had to learn how to do things for myself. This meant a trip to Radio Shack (if you remember them) for a soldering iron. It wasn't long before I was making my own guitar cables. That led to replacing pickups, pots, and adding switches to my guitar. My Strat has had many identities over the years, as a result.
I have played in many bands over the years all over the East coast from 1978 to present. I have always played guitar, but was also a singer and keyboard player. I've taken a couple breaks from gigging over the years, but never stopped playing guitar. About 10 years ago, I decided to join another band and focus on my guitar playing. I've been a weekend warrior around the Baltimore area ever since.
I've always had an interest in learning more about working on guitars. Little by little, I started acquiring tools and using some of my own guitars as guinea pigs. I bought my first guitar kit a few years ago as I wanted to learn about all aspects of building a guitar - from frets to nuts to finishing. I've completed two guitar builds - a Telecaster style and an ES-335 style - in the last year as well as restoring my '78 Strat back to it's near-original configuration.
